Memento is a psychological thriller by Christopher Nolan. It's about Leonard, an ex-insurance investigator who suffers from short-term memory loss and must figure out how he got into a car crash and killed his wife. The film is shown in reverse chronological order which allows the audience to piece together the story more quickly. This also serves as a metaphor for his own fading memories of the crime. The movie won numerous awards such as Best Picture, Best Director (Christopher Nolan), and Best Original Dramatic Score (Steven Spielberg). Leonard Shelby A former insurance investigator, Leonard Shelby is the main character. He works at his office one day when he gets into an accident. He then goes home with a couple of bottles of alcohol and writes "My wife" on his hand with a marker. The next day, he goes to his former psychologist (who has since retired) at his house and asks for help understanding what happened to him. Leonard tells him about how he remembers living in one room for most of his life. The two then go back to Leonard's house where they find that everything in the room has been cleared out. The psychologist then told Leonard that his wife was still alive. After meeting with the police, Leonard is given a pair of eyeglasses that contain a recording device. During the trial, he wears the glasses while testifying and can see it all in his mind's eye. Sarah Thomas Shelby The woman he killed in the accident. This is where many of Leonard's memories begin to blur together. At first, she was simply "the woman" who got hit by another car; but after witnessing her livid suicide from a high dive, he starts saying "Sarah!" whenever someone mentions her name. He often says this even when it's not relevant to anything else going on at the moment. Detective Chuck A police detective investigating the accident. He initially seems to be the only one who likes Leonard, but quickly becomes upset that Leonard has his own theory of what happened. He becomes hostile towards him and treats him badly. Teddy/The Blonde Man/Guy At Café A seemingly innocent man with a limp who was following Leonard around town. After being knocked down by Teddy, he disappears only to reappear later in the film as The Blonde Man who helps Leonard escape from Teddy. When they are in Tennessee, he is now called Guy at the Café who gets them a ride from the local police officer. It's revealed that he is actually John G. Leonard, Leonard's father. Peter Van Sant A man that helps Leonard escape from the police. He helps him out because he sees some similarities between Leonard and his late mother. He gives him a ride to Tennessee after seeing how much trouble Leonard is having with the police. At the same time, he gives him a gun, which he uses in both events when he sees it as a way to get out of trouble when faced with either Teddy or John G.. He is in Tennessee in order to meet and talk to his half-brother who committed suicide in the same manner as Sarah Thomas Shelby in an attempt to reconnect with his family, and was also named Peter Van Sant. cfa1e77820
